DCF Immersed, Jim2102 new and best custom map yet created!
So this map has been done and out for a while, but I wanted to share it here as well.
Introducing
Immersed. My custom map for BF1942 and DC Final that has been in the
works since 2018, and finished in April 2021. It all started in 2017
when I began mapping for a mod called 'Raised Fist' created by Black
Mamba. The idea for this map wasn't originally mine, it was theorized by
another mapper from the RF team, Texafornian. He had an idea to create a
map that was underwater, where the soldiers are fighting in a dome with
objects/buildings. He also had an idea for a shipwrecked submarine on
the outside. Unfortunately, he moved on from modding eventually, but I
liked the idea so much I became obsessed with it. He gave me full
permission to make the map. I started laying out the terrain and making
the ground textures in 2018. The real grinding on the map's creation
began in 2020 through 2021. Most of the maps assets are from various
mods which are credited. Some meshes were purchased from 3d model sites
and exported to bf1942 .sm format. One mesh was even made by me
(although I have no knowledge on 3ds Max and had no idea what I was
doing throughout the process). In total, I've probably spent 400-500
hours total building this thing. I would definitely recommend giving it a
look.
From the start you see the bubble lovely moving clouds....
So about the map itself, it's underwater, as explained above and as you can probably tell from its name 'Immersed'. Obviously, it's not ACTUALLY underwater, because the bf1942 engine says no, but it's sort of 'mimicked'. The sky is an underwater skybox with moving clouds that have a jellyfish texture, to give it an underwater feel. The outside part of the map is also decorated with giant rocks, octopuses, coral plants, fish and sharks, shipwrecks, downed planes, etc. In the center of the map is a large glass dome with 4 different environments on the inside, including a Desert, Snowy Area, Lava Hills, and a Jungle. Each environment is detailed to the max, ensuring a pleasant experience just looking around and battling on this map. So yeah, it's not very 'realistic', but more of an aesthetic map, whilst still being incredibly fun to play on.
The battleship in the Air is moving, looks like a Western on the floor...
This map DOES have working bot support, with
pathmaps painted by me. It does use modified strategies from El Alamein,
since I have no idea how to code custom strategies. But overall, the
bots work pretty good. There is a minor issue with them getting stuck
when trying to cap the ClockTower flag, I'm not sure why that is, and
they sometimes run into some jungle trees, but other than that, they can
actually be sneaky and back cap flags, which makes for interesting
battles and strategies.
There is a battleship from the BF Pirates Mod...
I've hidden a TON of easter eggs on this
map. There's a lot of them. You can have fun by just exploring around
and trying to find hidden secrets I've placed throughout. But the
question is, will someone find all of them?
Welcome to Bikini Bottom....
Anyways, checkout the
screenshots. And download links for the map are just below. I hope you
enjoy, and please tell me what you think! This map is my baby,
definitely the best map I've personally ever made. Oh yeah, I wanted to
give thanks to my buddy Crash for making a lot of custom textures for
this map. He textured some weapons and objects to give them an
underwater type vibe.
