Warfront v2.6 Preview: Time for the big guns...

Today I bring you a small update on the progress of the 2.6 patch.  First, I have went over the AI code extensively for the next release, and tweaked almost all the AI files. The bots are more aggressive now, make better choices in weaponry when attacking different targets, use landmines, call for artillery, and much more. While some of these weapons (landmines, binoculars, etc) are still a little sketchy in their use and effectiveness, this is a HUGE step forward for the Single Player of the mod. I will continue to tweak the AI as I receive feedback from the community...

Second up, while the Type 94 Isuzu truck was only introduced in the last release, I decided to model and texture my own version rather than use the previous model. Here are some screens of the newer model/texture...

And now, for the big guns...  I know y'all have enjoyed playing the KV-2 as much as I have, with it's massive firepower, but let's face it...it was slow and cumbersome, and it's battlefield life was short-lived. Not wanting to give up on such an awesome gun, however, the Russians found a way to squeeze that 122mm behemoth into the much more agile chassis of the T-34...and the SU-122 was born.

Now, while still suffering from a long reload, you have a much more effective mobile artillery platform to utilize on the 'Front.

Not to be outdone, the Germans decided to send more firepower to the 'Front in the form of the Sd.Kfz. 165, also known as the Hummel (Bumblebee). With a 15cm howitzer mounted on a Geschützwagen III/IV chassis, you have a very large gun on a very mobile platform. While the reload time is much better than that of it's Russian counterpart, it is a 2-man vehicle with separate driver/gunner positions.

Well, that's all I have for this update. I'm testing some new maps at the moment, and making sure "most" everything works, but I should hopefully have a new patch release ready around the first of the year, so keep an eye out!  takiwa

Warfront v2.4 Full Release!!!

2.4 UPDATE

New tanks and planes have been spotted on the 'Front!

I'm getting closer to being ready for the 2.4 release everyday, and I thought I'd show y'all some of the new toys you'll be able to play with :)
Panzer 38(t)
After Czechoslovakia was taken over by Germany in 1938, a number of Czech tanks were adopted for use by the German Army. One such tank was the Panzer 38(t) (in German, the Sd. Kfz. 140).

Although it didn't boast much in terms of armor (10mm-25mm) it was equal to most of it's German counterparts, like the Panzer I and Panzer II. Where it showed it's usefulness was in it's gun.

It's 37 mm Skoda A7 gun was more powerful than that of the the Panzer I or II, and even with the early Panzer III. For this reason, it saw extensive use early in the war, from France to invasion of Russia.

G4M2 "Betty"
The G4M2 was the main land-based bomber used by the Japanese during WWII. While the Allies called it "Betty", the Japanese pilots called it "Hamaki" (cigar) due to its cylindrical shape.

The G4M was agile for a bomber, due to it's light-weight construction. However, this also provided very little protection for the crew. To offset this, gunner positions in the ventral turret and tail were equipped with a Type 99 20mm cannon (a Japanese version of the 20mm Oerlikon cannon).

It is loaded with 12 60kg (140lb) Type 99 bombs, and can be found either spawning on an airfield or in a holding pattern in the skies above the 'Front.

So far, the pre-release testing is going well and I hope to have 2.4 ready for release in the next 7-10 days. Here's a quick look at the current changelog:

FULL VERSION

Warfront v2.4 full Version Release: Download

The full stand-alone version (not a patch) of 2.4 is now available for download! The file name says WarFront_2.5_Full, but that was an error on my part, it is the 2.4 release.

WarFront v2.4 Changelog (full stand-alone version, replaces WarFront 2.0)

INSTALLATION:
Thie version is a stand-alone release, NOT a patch. It completely replaces the WarFront 2.0 mod and the 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 patches for that mod. To keep installation problems to a minimum, delete your existing WarFront folder from your Mods directory, and extract the contents of this file to the same Mods directory...typically, "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\Mods\" (although your path may be different).
If you choose to keep your existing WarFront folder, overwrite with the contents of this file, but I assume no responsibility for any damages to any files on your computer that may occur during the extraction or overwriting process.

Warfront 2.4 Patch is comming

 2.4 Progress Update

M18 Hellcat

Today I welcome the M18 Hellcat to the 'Front. The M18 was the fastest American tracked armored vehicle, so mobility is a great asset for this tank. Use it to flank your enemies, or to shoot and scoot to various locations on the battlefield before being spotted.

But that mobility comes with a price...the armor is only 1" thick in some locations, and less than that everywhere else. Coupled with a roofless turret, the Hellcat doesn't offer much protection to it's crew. This is NOT a slugger, and should be kept out of harms way as much as possible.

With a very capable 76mm main gun, the Hellcat was the most effective American armored vehicle of World War II, with a higher kill to loss ratio than any tank or tank destroyer fielded by American forces. It's a great addition to the 'Front, and I hope you enjoy playing it.

Spawnable MG Support Kits

Another change you will see in 2.4 is the loss of the 6th spawn class in your spawn menu. I have removed the MG support class from the menu, and replaced it with spawnable kits on many of the maps. Here are a few of the kits you will see on the battlefield, just waiting for you to pick them up!
